Some love stories start with a swipe. Some start with a seat assignment. But theirs started on social media — half a world apart and came to a head with a Granville Island queer wedding. (One of my most favourite places, by the way–my wife and I were also married here!)
What began as messages across time zones quickly turned into late-night calls, shared playlists, and a “what if we just go for it?” moment. Instead of waiting for fate to figure it out, Morgan and Kim chose courage. They picked a spot halfway across the globe, packed their bags, and met in person for the very first time. Spoiler alert: it was instant magic.
From that first in-person hello, their story unfolded like the best kind of travel romance — bold, spontaneous, and impossible to ignore. So it only made sense that their wedding would celebrate not just their love, but the journey that brought them together. And where better to host a celebration of adventure than Granville Island?
Using Performance Works as their backdrop for ceremony and reception, family and friends from across the globe gathered to witness this long distance love story. The ceremony was emotional in that quiet, grounding way. Two people who once existed across an ocean through the ether were now standing in front of everyone they love, promising forever. There’s something incredibly powerful about queer love that has had to fight — even just a little — to exist. About choosing each other across distance.
When we walked into the reception, we weren’t just attending a wedding — we were boarding a love story, lead by the bride’s brothers as airplane guides themself. Guests were greeted with airplane-style menus, cleverly designed to mirror in-flight cards but featuring signature cocktails instead of safety instructions. It was so unique and fun!
Their day was joyful, heartfelt, and unapologetically them — a celebration of queer love, chosen family, and the kind of connection that doesn’t care about distance. This wasn’t just a wedding. It was proof that sometimes the biggest risks lead to the greatest adventures, and a reminder sometime you need to just jump right in!
