Boho Forest Elopement | Vancouver, BC

This intimate boho forest elopement would make any romantic adventure-lovers wedding dreams come true. I have always been a huge lover of the woods and natural settings, and when I was invited to photograph this styled boho forest elopement, I immediately jumped on board!

A styled shoot is commonplace in the wedding industry. Those of us who are wedding professionals have usually at one point in time, been asked to contribute our skills towards a collaborative photoshoot. Usually the shoot brings together a photographer, a hair or makeup artist, a florist, a designer, and sometimes more. Everyone contributes by bringing in what they do best, and in our case everyone showed up to the table!

Nicole, our hair and makeup artist and organizer extraordinaire behind the shoot- got in touch after discovering my work on instagram and we quickly realized we had the same idea for what would make a great session. She had a real life adventure couple in mind (engaged themselves and soon to be married) and we decided on an intimate boho forest elopement. Both of us had admired the boho theme that is taking over the elopement scene these days and we decided to incorporate that into our styled shoot.

The lovely vendors jumped on board, donating their time and product and I feel proud of how it came together. We knew we would need a gorgeous boho inspired backdrop, and decided one made of macrame would be the perfect touch. I love the contrast of the white knots of the macrame to the dark green of the shadows in the forest. After having spent many years working in the Vancouver Film Industry, I find my style of photography now leans toward a cinematic feel. I like to use light and shadow to add intrigue and emotion to the scene. Shooting in a forest is great for that, especially on a sunny day. Light filters perfectly through the trees and this day didn’t disappoint.

Our couple was ready for anything including rain, but we lucked out in the weather department on this March day. The forest was alive with shadows and light, mosses, broken branches, a random man who decided to throw big rocks around in the tiny clearing where we were shooting (it turns out he was working out), and mosquitos. Many, many mosquitos! Kudos to the lovebirds who braved those little blood suckers!

All in all, this boho forest elopement was a success complete with meeting new local vendors in the Vancouver wedding scene, fresh air, a few mosquito bites and some fun photos to prove it. Thank you to all who were involved in making this happen!
